Aims:To heighten awareness of intraoperative transmission of potentially pathogenic bacterial organisms in the Anesthesia Procedures and help anesthesiologists implementation of effective preventative measures,reduce rate of postoperative infection.Methods:Seven operative suites and the first selected case with genral anesthesia, whose operative procedure is over two hours were randomly selected for analysis. Sterile intravenous stopcock sets.three sites in the anesthesia machine circulation and three points on anesthesia machine surface where are easily contaminated were decontaminated and cultured aseptically at baseline (TimeO),five minutes after induction (Time1) and two hours after anesthesia (Time2)Results:Intravenous stopcock sets were sterile at TimeO,but bacterial contamination at Timel,increased significantly at Time2and bacterial numbers were over the decontaminated hygenic standards of National Hospital committee.Compare to TimeO,There were significantly in bacterial numbers at Timel-Time2(P<0.05). Although bacterial numbers at three sites in the anesthesia machine circulation and three points on anesthesia machine surface were also increased with time delay, bacterial colonies were within the decontaminated hygenic standards of National Hospital committee. Bacteria sampled from all sites displayed Coagulase negative Staphylococcus, Acinetobacter baumannii, Corynebacterium.Conclusions:Intravenous stopcock sets were easily contaminated by potentially pathogenic, bacterial organisms during the practice of general anesthesia.Implementation of infection control measures may help to effectively prevent and reduce the risk of post operative infectious complications.
