| Objective To analyze retrospectively adult patients undergoing extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in the first affiliated hospital of Zhejiang University. Methods We reviewed9adult patients (7males,2females) with lung failure treated with ECMO from Mar,2011to Apr,2102. The average age was48.2years (15-74years), and the median age was48.2years.Including3lung transplantation patients,1thracotomy patients with left pneumonectomy before,3ARDS patients and2paraquat intoxication patients, In6patients veno-arterial ECMO was instituted using Maquet adult ECMO heparin-coated circuits, while the other3patients established veno-venous ECMO.Results5of9patients (55.5%) successfully weaned from ECMO support and survived to hospital discharge, and the rest died. The average ECMO time was75h(3to230h),the median ECMO time was15h.2of them have complication both were thrombosis. Conclusion ECMO is an effective mechanical assistant method for clinical patients with refractory pulmonary failure, it can buy time to recovery of pulmonary function or transfer lung transplantation. For patient who are going to undergo lung transplantation or thracotomy with sever pulmonary insufficiency, ECMO can provide an effective oxygen assistant and nice exposure for operation. To some extent, ECMO can treat patients with ARDS, but it need further large scale random clinical trials to be confirmed. For paraquat intoxication patient, ECMO can transfer patient to lung transplantation, it can be a choice for the patients who have nice economical conditions, however, it also need to be confirmed. |
