Objective To summarise the operative and follow-up data on the treatment of descending aortic coarctation combined with aortic valve disease through aortic valve replacement plus ascending-abdominal aortic bypass procedure. Methods From March2009to September2010, three male patients with descending aortic coarctation combined with aortic valve insufficiency underwent aortic valve replacement plus ascending-abdominal aortic bypass procedure. The average age of the patients was (45±4).14#or16#artificial vascular graft and25#Carbomedics mechanical aortic valve were used. Enhanced computed tomography (CT) or cardiac color doppler ultrasound was performed in each patient before and after discharge to evaluate the cardiac function and the condition of artificial vascular grafts. Results Cardiopulmonary bypass time was (54±11) min, average cross clamp time was (34±6) min. No patient died in hospital. Thoracic and abdominal computed tomographic angiography (CTA) was performed on all three patients before discharge and showed artificial vascular patency. There was no late death or reoperation of the three patients during follow up.Conclusion The surgeries were done with satisfactory effect. Postoperative follow up showed artificial vascular patency. One-stage surgical treatment of descending aortic coarctation combined with aortic valve disease through aortic valve replacement plus ascending-abdominal aortic bypass procedure is safe and effective.
