Objective:The expression and clinical significance of CD24 and CD105 in adenoidcystic carcinoma (ACC).Methods:Subjects were selected from the archived paraffin-embedded of salivarygland ACC and the normal salivary gland tissues which were surgical excision by oraland maxillofacial surgery of the Second Hospital of Shanxi Medical University by theyear 2002-2010. (1) 10 cases of normal salivary gland tissues,(2) 47 cases of ACC.The expression and localization of CD24 and CD105 in cells of normal salivary glandand ACC were detected with Immunohistochemical methods, and the expression ofCD24、CD105 and MVD will be observed and calculated, the results was analyzed bySPSS 17.0 software package. Results:In our study, the expression of CD24 had a positive reaction in 4 cases ofcontrol group, and had a negative reaction in 6 cases of control group;the expressionof CD105 had a positive reaction in 5 cases of control group, and had a negativereaction in other half of cases. The expression of CD24 in control group had positivereaction as a percentage of 40%,and had a moderate reaction in 1 case and withoutstrong positive reaction(++/+++) in control group. The expression of CD24 had apositive reaction in 44 cases of ACC,and 3 cases of ACC had a negative reaction.Theexpression of CD105 had a positive reaction in 45 cases of ACC, and had a negativereaction in 2 cases of ACC. The expression of CD24 had a positive reaction as apercentage of 93.6% in ACC,and had a moderate reaction (++/+++)of 26 cases inACC as a percentage of 55.31%,and had a strong positive (+++)of 6 cases in ACC asa percentage of 12.8%. The expression of CD24 in different pathological types ofACC had a statistically significant (P<0.05).The experssion of CD24 in control groupand ACC had a statistically significant(P<0.05).The result of MVD had a statisticallysignificant between control group and ACC(F=5.525,P<0.05).The expression ofCD105 between Solid variant type and cribriform type had a statisticallysignificant. The expression of CD24 between Solid variant type and cribriform typehad a statistically significant. Conclusions:In summary, the expression of CD24 and CD105 in normal salivarygland and ACC were dectected by immunohistochemical method indicating that: (1)The expression of CD24 and CD105 had a strong positive reaction in ACC, but hada weak positive or negative reaction in normal salivary gland tissue.(2)The expressionof CD24 and CD105 in different pathology types of ACC had a statisticallysignificant, and the expression of CD24 and CD105 had a strong positive reaction insolide type of ACC.Which means that CD24 and CD105 might be used as a potentialindex in indentifying malignant or begine salivary grand tumor or the type ofACC.(3)In recent years, the researches of ACC tumor stem cell indicated that a largenumber of CD24+tumor cells may existed in the tumor stem cells. Therefore, theincreasing expression of CD105 and CD24 may contribute to the expansion of ACCtumor’s invasion ability,as well as the risk of occurrence of hematogenousmetastasis.(4)CD24 and CD105 was positively correlated. They related to the tumoragiogenesis and can be combined as the marker of ACC,they may play a importantrole in the options of clinical treatment and prognosis assessment.
