Objective Neonatal hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy ( hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy,HIE ) in neonatal period is one of the common diseases most harmful, in severe hypoxic ischemicencephalopathy often cause of neonatal death, the survivors often cause the development of thenervous system disorders, such as different levels of cerebral palsy, epilepsy, mental retardation, learning difficulties and obstacles and other sequelae of audio-visual. Thispaper studies of plasma melatonin level changes in neonatal severe hypoxic ischemic encephal-opathy, to elucidate the effects of melatonin in neonatal hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy in theoccurrence and development, to provide an experimental foundation for clinical application.Object and Methods1.1 From 2010 May to 2010 November in Shanxi province children’s hospital newbornDepartment of Pediatrics in 0~ 3 days term newborns in severe HIE 20 patients,13 were male,7female cases. Inclusion criteria: in the clinical diagnosis of HIE, in reference to the 2004 NovemberHIE diagnosis of Changsha National Neonatal HIE conference revised the clinical diagnostic andclassificatory criteria, with the exception of infectious diseases, central nervous systemmalformation, congenital heart disease in children. The control group for the hospita- lization of 20newborns, no perinatal asphyxia, no intrauterine growth retardation and infectious, metabolicdisease history, and with the exception of nuclear jaundice and central nervous systemmalformations, the maternal health. The male is10, and the female is 10. The average weight is3050±502.44g, The average gestational age is 39.3±1.65 week. The group of newborns ingestational age, birth weight, sex, age, blood components and there is no significant differencebetween HIE group.1.2 With HIE in the day of admission ( born after 0~ 3 days, acute period), the recovery period( born after 7~ 10 days ),20 cases in control children born after 0~ 3 days,7~ 10 collection. All ofthe subjects in the morning,9- 12am. by femoral vein blood collection, blood sampling in the glasstube,2h 1500r / min centrifugal 10 min, using a pipette taking the serum of 0.5ml in polyethylenepipe to be measured, - 20℃save. Using ELISA assay for the detection of plasma melatoninlevels.1.3 Plasma melatonin values to mean±SD ( x±s) said. Groups were compared usingSPSS13.0 statistical software package for two independent samples of the rank sum test. P <0.05,the difference was statistically significantResults Neonatal severe hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy as compared with the controlgroup, serum melatonin levels in the acute phase of severe HIE and normal control groups without differences, the recovery period is higher than the normal control group. Conclusion MT may have protective action on HIE....
