Background and ObjectiveThere is not an exact description for the definition of the heart rate recovery both at home and abroad. When the exercise test has ended, the heart rates at first, second, third, forth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth minute are recorded. The differences between the peak value and the heart rate at first, second, third, forth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth minute are heart rate recovery values (△HR1、△HR2、△HR3、△HR4、△HR5、△HR6、△HR7、△HR8、△HR9、△HR10), which can be used to evaluate the situation of the heart rate recovery. The autorhythmicity of the atrionector is regulated by the autonomic nerve. Especially heart rate recovery after exercise is regulated by parasympathetic nerve.Recent years, the studies in investgating the relationship between heart rate recovery and coronary disease and diabetes mellitus are gradually increased with the increasing of the morbidity of the coronary disease and diabetes mellitus. However, most studies are heart rate recovery after treadmill test. There are also some studies of heart rate recovery with bicycle ergometer test. The study using step exercise test is rare. There are rare study of relation between heart rate recovery and age, gender and heart rate variability (HRV), which may affect the situation of the autonomic nerve function. So we try to study the relationship of the heart rate recovery with age and gender. This study adopts the step exercise test, which is more economic, simple and convenient. Its innovations are as follows:(1) What the subject adopt is the step exercise test.②The subject is to study the relationship between heart rate recovery and age, gender and HRV.③The sample size is bigger than before.④The subject use ambulatory electrocardiogram to record the heart rate.According to the study, we hope to show the situation of heart rate recovery of different age, different gender and supply reference of different age and gender to other heart rate recovery research.Materials and Methods1Object:Selected490cases including hospital and outpatients patients that accomplished step exercise test when taking ambulatory electrocardiogram (AECG) monitoring. The subjects with non-sinus rhythm, cardiovascular disease and diabetes were excluded. The subjects that can not accomplish the test or take drugs that affect autonomic nerves and rhythm were excluded. There are356males(45.35%) and429femals (54.65%). They are18to91years old. Their average age is54.68±15.20years old.2Test methods:When there is an hour to the end of the record of AECG, ask the subjects to climb the stair until the subjects’heart rates reach the target heart rates. Then ask the subjects to have a rest for10minutes. Take the case of AECG down, playback and analyze the result of the AECG. Keep a record of the value of peak heart rate, the heart rate at first, second, third, forth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth minute and the result of the HRV.3Grouping methods:Subjects were divided into8groups according to their age, into2groups according to their gender, and into2groups according to the result of HRV detected by the ambulatory electrocardiogram.4Statistic:All of the data are dealt by SPSS10.0software. Process the result using analysis of variance of repeated measure. If the value of P is less than0.05, the difference is considered as significant.Results1The heart rate recovery value is increased with the time continuing during the first to tenth minute after the test; 2The heart rate recovery value of different age group is different. It is increased with the age increasing;3The heart rate recovery value of different gender is different. In total the heart rate recovery value of female is bigger than male;4The heart rate recovery value of different situation of heart rate variability is different. In total the heart rate recovery value of normal heart rate variability group is bigger than abnormal heart rate variability group.ConclusionsHeart rate recovery retarded with age increasing affected by the activity of parasympathetic nerve. The heart rate recovery of female is faster than male. The heart rate recovery of the normal HRV group is faster than abnormal HRV group.
