Purpose:To study the relationship and mechanism for interaction between mean platelet volumes(MPV) and risk factors of patients with atherosclerotic thrombotic cerebral infarction(ATCI), and assess the situation whether MPV is the independent risk factors in patients with acti or not. Methods:Consecutive patients admitted to the first affiliated hospital to Guangxi Medical University with objectively diagnosed atherosclerotic thrombotic cerebral infarction between August2010to June2011were included in this retrospective study. ATCI was evaluated through CT or MRI. The data was recorded including:1.Demographic data:age at onset, gender.2. Laboratory data:mean platelet volumes, Platelet count, red cell distribution width, hemoglobin, white blood cell count, monocyte counts, hemoglobin, fasting blood glucose, serum creatinine, total cholesterin, triglyceride.3.clinical information at admission:blood pressure levels, heart rate, temperature, National Institute of Health Stroke Scale score.4. Anamnesis information:hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, coronary heart disease, stroke history, dyslipidemia, smoking history, intervention of drugs(antihypertensive agents, antiplatelet drugs, insulin, hypoglycemic drugs).5. Imaging data:leukoaraiosis, stenosis of carotid and cntracranial arteries, Oxfordshire Community Stroke project(OCSP) types. Univariate analysis, multivariate analysis, multiple regression analysis, granger causality test, factor analysis were used to investigate the relationship between the indexs in groups divdided according the time of onset. Results:The study show that Platelet count, time of onset, OCSP types were significantly associated with MPV by using univariate analysis and multivariate analysis. Platelet count, OCSP types, Leukoaraiosis, white blood cell count were significantly associated with MPV by using multiple regression analysis. Platelet count is the Granger cause of the MPV, the white blood cell count might be the Granger cause of the MPV by using granger causality test. In common factor explored by factor analysis, the MPV associate with the blood factor, the ATCI factor, the factor of aging and the stress-metabolism factor. Conclusions:The interaction of risk factors of patients with ATCI led to the change of the MPV reflected the process of platelet activation related to thrombus, which there is still no sufficient evidences to prove that MPV is the independent risk factor in patients with ATCI.
