Objective To detect the expression of fragile histidine triad (FHIT) and human telomer-ase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) protein among Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), Bowen’s disease (BD), Solar keratosi(SK)and normal skin tissues, and to explore the relationship between FHIT、hTERT and the occurrence and progression in SCC.Methods The expression of FHIT and hTERT was detected immunohistochemistrically by PV-6000method in50cases of SCC,20cases of BD,15cases of SK and10cases of normal skin.Results①The positive expressive rate of FHIT in normal tissue, SK, BD and SCC was100.0%,73.3%,55.0%and44.0%respectively. The comparison between normal tissue and BD、SCC(χ2=6.429、10.500),. SK and SCC(χ2=3.972), well and poor differentiation(x2=4.020), lymph node metastasis or not(χ2=4.788) all had significant statistic difference (p<0.05, respectively).②There was no expression of hTERT in10cases normal skin. The positive expressive rate of hTERT in SK, BD and SCC was40.0%,70.0%and80.0%respectively. The comparison between normal tissue and SK, BD, SCC (p<0.05, respectively),. SK and SCC (χ2=8.924), well and poor differentiation (χ2=4.861),lymph node metastasis or not(x2=3.947), all had significant statistic difference (p<0.05, respectively). Therewas no significant statistic difference between SK and BD, BD and SCC (p>0.05).③In the same case, the higher of the positive rate and the positive expressive intensity of FHIT, the lower of hTERT. In the skin squamous cell carcinoma tissues, the expression of FHIT protein was negatively correlated with the hTERT protein (r=-0.363, P=0.010).Conclusion①The decreased expression of FHITmay relate to occurrence and progression of SCC.②The increased expression of hTERT may also relate to occurrence and progression of SCC.③The expression of FHIT was negatively correlated with the hTERT indicates that antagonistic effect may exist in the occurrence and progression of SCC.
