Analyze The Relationship Of Hip Fracture And Knee Osteoarthritis In Elderly

Objective: This thesis aims to give a research on the relationship betweenknee OA and fracture, confirm whether there is an association between themand how knee OA affects hip fracture.Methods: We selected33hip fracture patients who are over65from ourhospital at random as a research group from Aug.2010to Jan.2012,11malecases and22female ones. And the average age is76.0. Among these cases,there are22femoral neck fractures and11femoral intertrochanteric fractures.Additionally, we choose33normal elders as the comparable group,15malesand18females and the average age is75.1. All the cases-control are given theinternational KSS and WOMAC knee evaluations, radiographic exams to theboth knees and hips joints and relative bone density by using Lv T。Datacollected from the above2groups are compared statistically by using SPSS17.0statistic software,2independent t samples are employed, and it is statisticallymeaningful when p<0.05.Results: The divergence of the2groups is distinct when comparedthe results of them with KSS in demonstrating either pain or functions. So it ismeaningful. The difference is distinct （t=2.451,p﹤0.05）because the hipfracture average is28.3±15.9with WOMAC, while the referential is19.7±12.4. Both KSS and WOMAC evaluations show that the hip fracture groupsuffers from knee OA much than the referential group. And also, the evaluationwith knee OA Lv T scores is lower than the normal referential group so thedivergence is statistically meaningful（t=2.283，P=0.026）. Kellgren／ Lawrence(K/L) shares the same results with KSS and WOMAC. Hip fractureOA gives definite hints and the results are statistically meaningful.Conclusions: All in all, it is necessary to further the research becausehip fracture patients have worse knee functions than the normal elders. It issufficiently proved that knee OA is one dangerous factor of hip fracture. Andmore instruction should be offered to prevent from elder hip fracture.
