Background:Fluctuation of hormone level in pregnancy may change women’s normal physiological status, which would cause the increased susceptibility to periodontal disease. Periodontal disease in pregnancy shows common symptoms, such as bleeding, alveolar bone loss. In additon, it can lead to a series of serious pregnancy outcomes. Women of childbearing age, as a special group in society, whose oral health are not only related with their own systemetic health, but also connected with health of the next generation, should be paid special attention to. Currently, the majority of population are lack of oral health awareness, which is associated with social environmental factors, lifestyle, and so on. Periodontal disease can be prevented, so, health care workers have the responsibility to guide childbearing age women to maintain oral health in a proper way. To an extent, it would probably avoid the occurrence of periodontal disease during pregnancy. Therefore, understanding the periodontal status of childbearing age women, analyzing of periodontal disease-related risk factors, and proposing targeted prevention and intervention measures are very important. Objective:The objective of the present study was to investigate the periodontal status and assess the prevalence of periodontal disease among childbearing age women in Cixi by using the method of epidemiology. The periodontal disease-associated risk factors were expected to be identified, so as to afford relevant evidence to develop effective strategies for periodontal disease prevention. Methods:A study was conducted in childbearing age women in Cixi. The samples were obtained from the women visiting the Cixi Family Planning Commission regularly for prenatal care and pre-pregnancy physical examinations. All subjects were asked to complete a questionnaire, and then the qualified ones received periodontal examination voluntarily. Data of the women were collected from the history records and during an interview. Clinical periodontal indices, such as bleeding on probing (BOP), probing depth (PD) and clinical attachment level (CAL), were measured during the examination. Statistical analysis was performed on subject-based data by using SPSS16.0software.Results:1074questionnaires were distributed, and the periodontal examination had been successfully carried out among754childbearing age women according to the design of the survey. And the prevalence of periodontal disease among samples was84.7%. The result of univariate analysis showed the disease was significantly associated with marriage, pregnancy and educational level (p<0.01). After adjusting the confouding factor of age, results of logistic regression analysis indicated there was correlation between pregnancy, taking oral contraceptives and abnormal BOP, besides, alcohol, stress, BMI (Body Mass Index), dental visit and oral health behavior were all related to abnormal PD, CAL and BOP (p<0.05). Women who suffer periodontal disease showed deep probing depth, obvious bleeding on probing and clincal attachment loss. Among this population, the pregnant subjects had not only significantly higher percentage of BOP (+) than the nonpregnant ones, but also larger population who never brushing their teeth and brushing for less than one minute (p<0.05). Influence on CAL because of pregnancy seemed contrary before and after adjusting the confouding factor of age. Conclusion:Enhance the awareness of oral health among childbearing age women, especially for the low-educated, overweight and obesity, under great stress and the pregnant women. And giving correct and standardized oral hygiene guidance timely has important social significance. Background:When periodontitis deteriorates to an extent, it often causes gingival recession, alveolar ridge collapse, etc., which would probably lead to several problems related with function and aesthetics, such as exposed root, tooth sensitivity, black triangle formation resulted from papillae disappearance. With the increased demand of oral function and aesthetics, periodontal cosmetic surgery has been widely applied. Treating periodontal defects by subepithelial connective tissue graft not only can restore satisfying function and morphology of periodontal tissues, but also possesses the advantage of postoperative wound healing, stability of transplant. The surgery has been generally accepted by periodontists and extensively applied in clinic because of its satisfying efficacy. Objective:To observe the efficacy of subepithelial connective tissue graft on periodontal defects patients, and evaluate the change of periodontal status after treatment. Methods:Collect four cases of periodontal defects. On the basis of necessary thorough peridontal initial therapy and root canal therapy, subepithelial connective tissue graft was conducted, furthermore, certain cases would be treated combining with prosthodontics. The masticatory function, comfort and tooth-gingival esthetic of patients’tooth were observed after surgery. Results:During follow-up period, general periodontal status and periodontal indices (PD, BOP and CAL) about total teeth were significantly improved after peridontal initial therapy. Furthermore, good function evaluation was observed, as well as esthetic evaluation about surgery teeth. What’s more important was rarely retraction was observed on the transplantation except one special case. Conclusion:The subepithelial connective tissue graft can be effective in treating periodontal soft tissue defects, and significantly improve the function and periodontal aesthetic of the teeth, of which the results were satisfying.
