BackgroundRetrievable vena cava filter (RVCF) is a new generation of vena cava filter. There was no domestic system analysis about its indication, retrieval rate and factors which affect filter retrieval. We try to discuss those through retrospective study of data from patients who received RVCF implantation during June2009to June2011.MethodsData from patients who received RVCF implantation during June2009-June2011was reviewed. The patients were divided into two groups due to the RVCF is retrieved or not, and the data of two groups were compared and statistical evaluated. ResultsNinety six RVCF were placed in the inferior vena cava of96patients. Main indications for filter placement included contradication to anticoagulation(31.3%), thrombectomy/thrombolysis(28.1%), complication of anticoagulation(9.4%). Patient age>75years (OR0.149,95%CI0.034~0.651,P=0.005), a history of malignancy(OR0.298,95%CI0.007~0.550,P=0.001) and implantation filter for failure of anticoagulation(OR0.255,95%CI0.063~1.036,P=0.043) was associated with filter detention.ConclusionRVCF can prevent pulmonary embolism effectively and safely. It has a high retrieval rate with prospective monitoring. Patient age>75years, a history of malignancy and implantation filter for failure of anticoagulation was associated with filter detention. There may be no retrieval advantage to use RVCF than permanent vena cava filter in those patients.
