Objective:We analyze the value of clinical manifestations and imaging data of oral and maxillofacial vascular malformations for its diagnosis and treatment, and summarize the main treatment techniques and methods for complex vascular malformations, so as to provide a reference for treatment of oral and maxillofacial complex vascular malformations. Methods:We collect the clinical data of the cases with a final pathologic diagnosis of vascular malfonnations those referred to Department of Aral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Second Affiliated Hospital, School of Medicine, Zhejiang University in recent2years. We also review related literatures to analyze and summarize the clinical manifestations, imaging characteristics and treatment of vascular malformations in oral and maxillofacial region.Results:During2010to2012, there are75cases with a final pathologic diagnosis of vascular malformations referred to our department.17cases are capillary malformations that are local lesions diagnosed by clinical manifestations and treated by resection.48cases are venous malformations with various imaging characteristics and complex treatments.3cases are lymphatic malformations lacking specific imaging characteristics and treated by resection or sclerotherapy.6cases are arteriovenous malformations and their images are mainly used to confirm the clinical diagnosis and help to design treatment plans, and they are treated by resection or embolization. There is only1case of arteriovenous fistula, and it is treated by resection. Conclusions:Vascular malformations are characterized by various category, clinical manifestations and imaging characteristics. We should design proper imaging approach based on specific conditions for aided diagnosis. Correct classification and diagnosis are very important to direct treatment and accurately ascertain prognosis. Multimodal therapy is frequently indicated, and in complex cases, multidisciplinary cooperation should be considered.
