BackgroundBecause of poor sensitivity to chemotherapy> side effects and tumor multi-drug resistance becoming the bottleneck of the chemotherapy efficacy, lung adenocarcinoma patients always have a poor prognosis.Recently the research focuses on the predictive factors on diagnosis and efficacy of lung adenocarcinoma. According to the literature reported, serum insulin-like growth factor-1(IGF-1) and insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3(IGFBP-3) play an important role in the development of many tuomrs, however, few studies on the relationship between them and chemotherapy.efficacy are reported and the results are different. So how to combine them and the diagnosis and chemotherapy efficacy is our main research direction.ObjectiveTo study the expression and significance of serum insulin-like growth factor-1(IGF-1) and insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3(IGFBP-3) in patients with lung adenocarcinoma, and the relationship between them and chemotherapy.MethodsSerum IGF-1and IGFBP-3were determined by ELISA in28patients with lung adenocarcinoma (A group),26lung patients with benign disease (B group) and20healthy controls (C group).ResultsSerum IGF-1level in A group (667.19±105.36μg/L), was significantly higher than those in B group (448.53±121.04μg/L) and C group (398.45±111.46μg/L)(P<0.05); but there was no significant difference between B group and C group (P>0.05). Serum IGFBP-3levels in A, B, C group were3003.17±998.23μg/L,3875.43±1017.43μg/L,3964.53±1089.73μg/L, respectively. There was significant difference between A group and B, C groups (P<0.05), but no significant difference between B group and C group (P>0.05). In the12patients obtaining response after2cycles chemotherapy, serum IGF-1level decreased and IGFBP-3level increased, but they did not reach a significant difference (P>0.05).ConclusionsSerum IGF-1and IGFBP-3play an important role in the diagnosis of lung adenocarcinoma, however, they still can not be used to predict the efficacy of chemotherapy.
