Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials As A Prediction Factor Of The Curative Effect Of Sudden Deafness

ObjectiveTo investigate features of VEMP and predict the curative effect of patients with sudden deafness.Methods1. Recording the VEMPs of fourty healthy adult volunteers (80ears) Who all had never feeled vetigo and dizzy and building VEMPs parameters’normal values.2. Twenty-three patients with sudden deafness were cured in our department between2011November and2012February, treatment methods including of improving circulation, neurotrophic drug treatment and so on for1course; The VEMPs latency (p1, n1, p1-n1interval), amplitude and other parameters of patients were measured and analyzed before and1week after treatment.Results1. The range of VEMPs parameters’normal values as follows:p1(14.67±1.56) ms, N1(23.40±2.00) ms, plnl interval (8.54±2.29) ms, plnl amplitude (84.47±32.54) μv.2. The difference in VEMPs parameters(P1,P1-Nlinterval, amplitude) of23patients with sudden deafness and healthy adult was statistically significant(P<0.05),while N1was no significant(P>0.05);.no significant difference existed in in VEMPs parameters(P1,amplitude) between before and after treatment(P>0.05), while there was statistically significant of VEMPs parameters(n1, p1-n1interval)(P<0.05);Additionally, there was a significant difference between VEMPs amplitude variations of before and after treatment and effective classifing (P<0.05,r=0.32).Conclusions 1. Mostly, Patients with sudden deafness exist cochlear damage,meanwhile, whose vestibular function is suffured from a certain extent injury.2. There may exist a positive correlation between VEMPs amplitude and the serverity of sudden deafness:the bigger VEMPs amplitude vary, the better curative effect, Therefore, VEMPs testing before and after treatment may be regarded as a prediction factor of the curative effect of patients with sudden deafness.
