Objective:To investigate the expression of Collagen I and Collagen III of anterior vaginal tissuein postmenopausal women with pelvic organ prolapse and to explore whether thechanges of collagen could contribute to the pathogenesis and progress of pelvic organprolapse (POP).Methods:58patients operated were collected in Shenzhen People’s Hospital from2010to2012.They were divided into2groups as follows:37postmenopausal patients withPOP and without SUI(stress urinary incontinence), and21postmenopausal patientswith neither POP nor SUI.For every case examined the expression of collagen I andIII in the anterior vaginal tissue by immunology histochemical technique. The datawas detected through SPSS(Statistical Package for the Social Science)13.0.Results:1. In anterior vaginal tissue of postmenopausal women with pelvic organ prolapse, thepositive rate of Collagen I was97.30%,compared with that of100%in the controlgroup. There was no obvious difference in expression of Collagen I between anteriorvaginal tissue of postmenopausal group with pelvic organ prolapse and of controlgroup(Z=0.407,P=0.684).2. In the group with anterior vaginal tissue prolapse of the second phase and thirdphase, the positive rate of Collagen I was95.65%,compared with that of100%in thegroup with anterior vaginal tissue prolapse of the fourth phase. With the rising gradeof lesions, the expression level of Collagen I didn’t change. There was no obviouscorrelation in the the expression level between the two groups(χ2=0.10,P=0.919).3. In anterior vaginal tissue of postmenopausal women with pelvic organ prolapse, thepositive rate of Collagen Ⅲ was45.95%,compared with that of71.43%in the control group. There was obvious difference in expression of Collagen Ⅲ betweenthe two groups(Z=0.407,P=0.684).The expression of Collagen Ⅲ in anteriorvaginal tissue of postmenopausal women with pelvic organ prolapse was lower thanthat in anterior vaginal tissue of postmenopausal women in the control group.4. In the group with anterior vaginal tissue prolapse of the second phase and thirdphase, the positive rate of Collagen Ⅲ was56.52%,compared with that of35.71%inthe group with anterior vaginal tissue prolapse of the fourth phase. With the risinggrade of lesions, the expression level of Collagen Ⅲ didn’t change. There was noobvious correlation in the the expression level between the two groups(χ2=1.76,P=0.184).5. There was no significant correlation in the the expression level in anterior vaginaltissue of neither postmenopausal women with pelvic organ prolapse norpostmenopausal women in the control group between Collagen Ⅲ and CollagenⅠ(r=-0.632,P=0.368).6.Compare with the value of collagen Ⅰ/Ⅲ in anterior vaginal tissue ofpostmenopausal women, the POP group is higher than the control group(The POPgroup is2.12;The control group is1.40).Conclusion:1、In anterior vaginal tissue of postmenopausal women with pelvic organ prolapse, theexpression of CollagenⅠdidn’t change while the expression of Collagen Ⅲ wasincreased. The low expression of Collagen Ⅲ may play a role to pelvic organprolapse.2、With the degree of pelvic organ prolapse quantitive examination from moderate tosevere, there was no significant change in the the expression level of CollagenⅠandCollagenⅢ in anterior vaginal tissue of postmenopausal women with pelvic organprolapse.3、The value of the collagenⅠ/collagen Ⅲ was increased in anterior vaginal tissueof postmenopausal women with pelvic organ prolapse. This may play a role to pelvic organ prolapse.
