In order to probe the effectiveness and mechanism of Healthy Qigong on bone metabolism, the indicators of bone metabolism and serum NO, NOS were tested in postmenopausal women. 26 postmenopausal female subjects aged 50 to 65 years were recruited in the study. All subjects untrained were divided into control group (CG, n=10, common communities) and Healthy Qigong group (HG, n=16, new trainee in fitness station). After the professional training of Healthy Qigong: Yi Jin Jing, Wu Qin xi, Ba Duan Jin and Liu Zi Jue, gave sustained intervention for six months. Before and after intervention ,We tested the levels of serum calcium (blood calcium, Ca), alkaline phosphatase (alkaline phosphatase, AKP), tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase, TRAP), nitric oxide (Nitric oxide, NO) , nitric oxide synthase (Nitric Oxide Synthase, NOS) and the values of calcaneal bone ultrasound attenuation (BUA), T-score(compared the peak of bone density with youths), Z-score(compared the bone density with peers ). It was observed that after six months exercise, (1) compared with the CG, there were a significantly decrease in serum TRAP, NO, NOS levels (P <0.05) and significantly higher levels in Z-score in the HG (P <0.05); (2) compared with itself, there were significantly lower in serum Ca, AKP, NO, NOS in the HG (P <0.05) and there was no significantly varies in the CG (P >0.05).So, Healthy Qigong is a medium intensity aerobic exercise. It might play a role on delaying osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. To some extent, it could inhibit the activity of bone resorption, maintain the function of bone formation, enhance the bone density and reduce the risk of fracture. At the same time, although the Healthy Qigong has postponed the bone loss of postmenopausal women, but it was a long process that exercise regulated the bone metabolism. So, we recommend taking a persistent training of the Healthy Qigong in order to achieve a better result.
