The global climate has changed dramatically since the industrial revolution. The increasing of carbon emission from human activities caused the significantly increasing of the global temperature and the frequency of all kinds of extremely natural disasters. Nowadays, with more knowledge and a better understanding, people pay much more attention to the environmental problems. Landscaping, a kind of vegetation which may be most closely related to people in the urban area, notonly decorates the city but also contributes a lot on the ecological effect. According to the study, landscaping can relieve the urban heat island effect significantly by reducing the amount of CO2in the air.The common landscape tree species and communities are the objects of study in this article. The main research contents are the carbon sequestration of the trees species and communities, and the carbon content in wood. Combined with the current development status and trends of low-carbon cities worldwide and Chongqing landscape characteristics, using approaches of instrument determination, biomass method, CVD model, potassium dichromate-hydration heat method and quadrat surveys to research. The main purposes are:(1) to estimate and contrast theamounts ofvolume, carbon storage, annual biomass growth, annual carbon fixation of the trees etc;(2) to measure the carbon content in wood of trees;(3) to estimate and contrast carbon storage of different landscape community types, and definite the main factor which influence the storage of different landscape community. And then filtering the trees and communities which have well performance in carbon sequestrations, to provide reference basis for the construction of the landscape in Chongqing.Through a series of studies and tests, the results are presented as follows:(1) In the common tree species in Chongqing, the following species have well performances in carbon storage:Salix babylonica, Acer buergerianum, Elaeocarpus sylvestris (Lour.) Poir, Populus canadensis Moench, Cinnamomum camphora (L.) Presl, and the following trees have poor performances in carbon storage:Osmanthus fragrans, Platycladus orientalis, Cinnamomum pedunculatum, Prunus serrulata, Ligustrum lucidum. The carbon storage of Deciduous broad-leaved species is better than that of evergreen broadleaved species and coniferous species;(2) In the common tree species in Chongqing, the following species have well performances in annual carbon fixation:Salix babylonica, Acer buergerianum, Populus canadensis Moench, Elaeocarpus sylvestris (Lour.) Poir, Cinnamomum camphora (L.) Presl. The following species have a poor performances in annual carbon fixation:Platycladus orientalis, Celtis sinensis, Osmanthus fragrans,Cinnamomum pedunculatum. When trees is being DBH between10and15cm, they have better annual carbon fixation than which is DBH between5and10cm, and also is DBH greater than20cm. The annual carbon fixation of deciduous broad-leaved species is usually better than that of evergreen broad-leaved species and coniferous species;(3) In the common tree species in Chongqing, the following tress species content more carbon in their wood:Salix babylonica, Cinnamomum camphora (L.) Presl, Populus canadensis Moench, Elaeocarpus sylvestris (Lour.) Poir, Jacaranda mimosifoia. The following tree species content less carbon in their wood:magnoliagrandiflora linn, Michelia x alba, Platycladus orientalis, Cinnamomum septentrionale Hand, Prunus serrulata;(4) In the common communities in Chongqing, mixed forest has bigger carbon storage than evergreen broad-leaved forest, and evergreen broad-leaved forest has bigger carbon storage than coniferous forest. There are many factors to influence the carbon storage of the communities. The quantity of trees is not the main factor, but the types, DBH, height of trees have had greater impact to the carbon storage of communities, and human factor can also have impact to it. Trees have greater impact than bushes and grasses.
