Evaluation Of Land Resource Development In Low-slope Hilly Region Of Wanzhou

Evaluation of land quality is one of the main content of the studies on land resources, land suitability evaluation is the precondition of reasonable development and utilization of land resources. With the rapid population explosion and economic development, land resources scarcity is tensive. The development and utilization of the low-slope hilly region which is the most important reserve resource of Wanzhou is one of the key to ensure the agricultural production.Wanzhou is located in the northeast of Chongqing and belongs to centre the three gorges reservoir area. She carries with the mission that contains environment protection and people rich.This paper assessed the potential for exploiting land in low-slope hilly region by integrating the technique of GIS in order to provide useful information for decision-makings. Selecting topographical characteristics, soil fertility and location conditions and so on as limitation factors, the land utilization potential has been assessed for arable land and constructive land respectively:(1)The low-slope land resource survey was from DEM and present landuse map undertaking using the technique of GIS. The result showed that there is a total low-slope hilly area of83769.27ha,24.24%of the total land of Wanzhou, and which can be developed of70468.86ha,20.39%of the total area. According to above data, wanzhou is rich in low-slope hilly resources(2) Agricultural development focus on cultivated land, and the index system of low-slope land resourses utilization potential evaluation has been constructed. Due to conditions of soil, topography, disaster, farming and water distance, resources area very suitable to development is3709.43ha which account for5.26%of the total area of low-slope hilly resources; The resources suitable for agricultural development are rich, covers an area of48925.02ha,69.43%of the total area of low-slope hilly resources; Barely suitable area of17690.92ha which account for25.10%; unsuitble area is143.49ha which account for0.2%. we also know that land types of forest and arable land have the largest potential. The results indicated the performance of method with sustainability goal can consist with the future development.(3) Considering the factors of town distribution, disaster, traffic conditions and so on, index system of Construction development utilization potential evaluation has been constructed. Evaluating by comprehensive index method, the results show that very suitable, appropriate, reluctantly appropriate and inappropriate region are 17853.72ha,32212.7ha,12203.94ha and8198.5ha, which account for25.34%,45.71%,17.32%and11.63%, respectively.
