Robinia pseudoacacia and Quercus variabilis are widely used in china as mountain forestation species. In this study, we measured the content change of nutrient substance and germination inhibitor of Robinia pseudoacacia seeds at different storage period; Also the seed vitality and the content of nutrient substance in the growth process of Robinia pseudoacacia seeds of three different ages were discussed; Furthermore, the variation of seed vitality and content of nutrient substance of Quercus variabilis seed from different provenances were studied. The main results were as follows:(1)As extension of the storage time of Quercus variabilis seeds, seeds germination rate and germination potential were declined. The protein and starch content were decreased, and the cellulose content was increased. The content of soluble sugar has no significant change. Through the bioassay of the methanol extract from Robinia pseudoacacia L. seeds, we found the methanol extract (10%、20%、30%、40%) of Robinia pseudoacacia L. seeds at different storage time all exhibited the inhibitory role on the germination rate, vigor index of seed (SVI), height, as well as root growth of seedling of cabbage (Brassica campestris L.ssp. chinensis), the longer storage time, the more obvious of the inhibitory effect. The cabbage seeds could not germinate with40%methanol extracts, also the30%methanol extracts of Robinia pseudoacacia L. seed collected in1963; with the storage time and methanol extract concentration increase, the more obvious the inhibitory to the seedling height and root growth(2)3different age Robinia pseudoacacia seeds’water content differ from4.88%to6.59%,4a showed the maximum thousand seed weight and dry weight,25a’s were minimal; With the continuous development of seeds, for all Robinia pseudoacacia seeds, the content of starch decreased first and then increased, the content of soluble sugar increased first and then decreased. The content of protein and fat increased gradually; Robinia pseudoacacia seeds dry weight showed very significant positive correlation to fat and protein, showed very significant negative correlation to solution sugar and water content, and is uncorrelated to starch and thousand seed weight. The best recovery period of Robinia pseudoacacia seeds at three different age is in last ten days of September, in which time seeds have the highest maturity and richest storage substance.(3)There were significant differences in seed length, seed diameter, seed weight, and starch, protein, crude fat, and soluble sugar content of seed among provenances. The coefficient of variation of seed characters was between9%~12%, about4%~24%in nutrient content, and the variation mainly within provenances; The seed weight had significant positive correlation with latitude and the length-diameter ratio of seed had significant positive correlation with elevation; Protein content had significant negative correlation with annual average temperature but significant positive correlation with annual average sunshine; Soluble sugar content had significant negative correlation with annual average precipitation; And other traits had poor correlation with environmental factors.
