This experiment was carried out to study the optimum requirements levels of energy and protein on Chihuahuas. Using different protein and energy level in diets to feed the small pet dog, then to screen a better appropriate levels of energy and protein through feeding and digestion experiment under our country’s condition. In order to offer the scientific theoretical basis and provide production guidance for feeding and feed industrialized producting of small pet dogs.To study optimum requirement of energy and protein on small pet dogs in growth period. We used two-factor experimental design,27of four-mouth old healthy Chihuahua were selected, and the average initial weight was about650g (P>0.05).A11of them were randomly divided into9groups, each group of3dogs, divided into two periods.Different levels of energy (A factor)were14MJ/kg,15MJ/kg,16MJ/kg,and different protein levels (B factor) were20%,22%,24%,26%,28%,30%.The growth period of pet dog’s daily weight gain and apparent digestibilities of nutrients were measured. The results showed that:the combination of15MJ/kg of energy level and28%of protein level could make the daily weight gain and the digestibility of dry matter and digestibility of energy reached the highest, meanwhile it increased2.87g (P>0.05),2.78%(P<0.05) and2.88%(P<0.05)respectively than the second best combination.According to the test results, selected the nutrition level on the forth and forward of excellent combination (15MJ/kg28%). The level of energy were14.5MJ/kg,15MJ/kg,15.5MJ/kg, the level of protein27%,28%,29%,respectively, the experiment lasted for30days. Results showed that the best combination of15MJ/kg29%,which would improved the daily weight gain and the digestibilities of the dry matter and energy by3.05g (P>0.05),1.48%(P<0.01),2.46%(P<0.05)respectively than the second best combination. To study optimum levels of energy and protein on small pet dog in adult period,ten-mouth old healthy Chihuahuas were selected as experimental animal, the body weight about2kg (P>0.05). Experiment design was same as that for studying optimum levels of energy and protein in growth period. The fat levels (A factor)of feed were10%,12%,14%,16%,18%,20%,and the levels of protein were20%,22%,24%,26%,28%,30%. The results showed that:in the first phase, the best combination was the level of fat for14%and the level of protein was24%;and the second phase, the best combination of the level of fat was14%and protein24%.The single factor analysis between the best combination of the first phase and the second. Results showed that the apparent digestibilities of dry matter and energy and protein of the first phase raised by1.92%(P>0.05),5.33%(P<0.01),3.45%(P<0.05) respectively compaired with the second excellent combination. The nutrition level of optimization test was that the level fat werel3%,14%,15%,and the level of protein were23%,24%,25%. Results showed that the optimal combination for15%of fat level and23%level of protein, which would produce the highest apparent digestibilities of dry matter and protein among those combinations, increase by2.02%andl.83%(P<0.01) respectively than the second best combination. To sum up, in this experimental condition, small pet dog growth period optimal energy requirement for15MJ/kg, the optimum quantity of protein is29%; adult optimal fat level is15%, the optimal protein requirement for23%.
