In recent years, ornamental grass had been paid attention more and more by people, and had broad space for development and market prospects. Phalaris arundinacea var. Picta is blong to Phalaris and it is a perennial herb. P. arundinacea var. Picta by investigating its biologic characteristic, was measured in some different water conditions through PEG6000(polyethylene glycol) simulative drought pressure experimentation, natural drought pressure experimentation and immergence pressure experimentation to find out what condition of soil and water was adapted to. It is good not only to enrich the basal information of P. arundinacea var. Picta, but also to increase the proportion of drought-resistant and water-saved plant in urban architecture by more and more architecture applications. The results showed that the percentage of withered leaves, leaf relative electrolytic leakage, contents of MDA and free proline increased gradually; while content of water soluble protein declined firstly and than increased. SOD and POD activities were elevated at beginning then declined. Above7parameters showed a significant positive correlation with PEG stress. However, the leaf relative water content decreased continuously and showed an obvious negative correlation with PEG stress. According to the morphological and physiological parameters under drought stress, P. arundinacea var. Picta could be determined as a drought tolerance species and grow normally under moderate drought stress, but it would be damaged under severe drought stress.Under the drought stress, the changes of percentage of withered leaves, relative water content, relative electric conductivity, MDA content, free proline, soluble protein content, SOD activity and POD activity were in accordance with the results of droughts stress on simulated by PEG. chlorophyll content rose at beginning then declined. The results showed morphological and physiological characteristics of P. arundinacea var. Picta was well correlated with the soil water content. After re-watering the indexes could almost recover to the levels of CK.P. arundinacea var. Picta could grow well under flooding stress. The results showed that the leaves relative water contcn have declined; leaf relative electrolytic leakage, contents of MDA and free proline, POD acticity have increased; while content of water soluble protein and SOD activity were elevated at beginning then declined. This study shows that P. arundinacea var. Picta is an excellent ground cover plants with drought resistance and humidity tolerance.
