The ecological environment has been significantly improved, and social economic developmenthas been effectively guaranteed in the coastal areas of Fujian province, since the implementation ofcoastal protection forest project Phase I(1988) and Phase II(2000). This paper used remote sensing datain Zhangpu country in1988and2003, combined with soil survey data and forest inventory data, tomonitor coastal protection forest sand fixed effect from space and time angles which could providestheoretical basis for the construction of coastal protection forest. The main conclusions are as follows:(1)This paper classified land use type as: cultivated land, water, habitation, woodland, sand, unutilized land, of which woodland is further classified as: Casuarina equisetifolia, Pinus elliottii,Acacia confuse, commercial forest and other forest specie, refering to land classification systems ofMinistry of Land and Resources and according to local conditions. This paper combined supervisedclassification and hierarchical classification method to extract thematic information of TM remotesensing data (1988) and ETM remote sensing data (2003) in Zhangpu county. The classification overallaccuracy of land use type was90.90%,90.63%and of forest types was85.42%,87.94%, respectively.(2)In order to analyze the dynamic change of sand fixed effect of coastal protection forest, thispaper selected4indicators: land salinity, soil moisture, bare sand ratio and normalized differencevegetation index, using principal component analysis and common factor variance method to determinethe weights of factors, and the sand fixed effect model of coastal protection forest was constructed bycomprehensive index. With system clustering method, according to local condition, the sand fixed effectlevel was divided into high, intermediate, and low. Finally the thematic maps were generated whichwere on sand fixed effect level of coastal protection forest.(3)This study analyzed1988and2003sand fixing effect of coastal shelter forest in ZhangpuCounty. The result showed that: in the study area the overall sand fixing effect turned better from1988to2003. The area of low-level, middle-level and high-level sand-fixation effect respective was16057.44hm~2,16749.72hm~2and163515.6hm~2in1988. Then it turned into5234.04hm~2,5598.36hm~2 and185343.48hm~2in2003.Combined with the administrative division thematic graph, we found thatthe area of low-level sand-fixation effect in2003was less than1988, with the exception of QianTingtown and MaPing town. And other than QianTing town, the area of middle-level sand-fixation effect in2003was also less than1988. The result showed than the sand-fixation effect in QianTing town andMaPing town were weakened. The reason is the fast pace of economic development on these twotownship, and a greater degree of exploitation the land.(4)In this paper, two transects was established and sample points on the lines was fixed accordingto the distance from the coastal backbone forest in northern and middle area in ZhangPu County. Wechose soil texture, soil parent material, soil depth and slope for soil quality index and vegetationcoverage, vegetation erosion-protection, vegetation drought-resistant for vegetation quality index. Basedon information entropy catastrophe theory, cusp catastrophe model was chosen to analysis the mutationsof information entropy on two transect to reflect the spatial variation of sand-fixation effect.(5)The cusp catastropheAnalysis of two Transect information entropy showed:Northern transectecosystem information entropy mutated while the middle transect didn’t in2003, ZhangPu County.furthermore analysis showed that the mutated sample point appeared at the27.5km place from coastalbackbone forest. Combining with the sub compartment and thematic maps of forest types we found thatthe sub compartment is artificial pure forest of pinus massoniana.
