Along with the railroad locomotive’s development, now the majority of locomotives isdepending on the electric traction. Electric locomotive has the massive strong electricityequipment, like the transformer, the converter, the reactor, the pulling motor and the electricbraking use resistance installment and so on,they will create quantity of heat because of theoperating current is big. When the high efficiency electric power electronic device work,theywill produce quantity of heat,it will cause temperature elevation of the chip,if there have nosuitable radiation measure,possibly will cause the chip turn to the highest junctiontemperature which the temperature will surpass permits,which will cause the componentperformance deteriorate then turn to damage.The disscussion studies the cooling problem of the water-cooling plate of haulingconverter cooling system on the locomotive,The quantity of heat,which produced bt the powerelectronics device work, first passes to the water-cooling plate, the water-cooling plateconducts the quantity of heat to the cooling liquid,the cooling system use the water pumpmake the cooling liquid circulate to the exterior water radiator,high temperature water in theradiator is forced ventilation cooling by the external fan,after the heat exchange,the coolingwater returns to the water-cooling plate to reduplicate the cooling process.The disscussion used the CFD methods to do numerical simulation on the thermal energyperformance of the water-cooling plate radiator of the traction converters cooling system,takethe three dimensional modelling software UG and computation hydromechanics softwareFLUENT as the research tool, take heat transfer theory and the computation hydromechanicsas the rationale, analyzed the different ambient condition as well as the radiator interior flowchannel structure to the radiator heat dispersion influence.Finally analyzes the computed result:the cooling water’s initial temperature、the coolingwater’s physical property play the very important role to radiator’s radiation effect; Theexternal environment temperature play less influence to the radiator’s radiation effect;Two-sided arranges IGBT to be able to cause radiator’s radiation effect to be better;Accordingto the principal of similitude, obtains the characteristic number equationNu=0.01245Re0.859,which express the radiator’s radiation effect;Increases the radiator’sheight of the interior flow channel can strengthen the radiator’s radiation ability.Carries on thesimulation analysis using the CFD method to the radiator,can improve the design effectively,save the expense of research and development and the manpower,enhances the product designindependent ability.
