Uranium hexafluoride(UF6) is a volatile compound of uranium used in the uranium enrichment process that produces fuel for nuclear reactors. It forms solid grey crystals at standard temperature and pressure, is highly toxic and radiation hazard. The internal radiation hazard of UF6come from the alpha radiation of the uranium isotopes U-238, U-235, and U-234. In addition, The external radiation hazard from UF6should be still considered the neutron radiation from19F (a, n)22Na the reaction and uranium isotopes fission and the gamma radiation produced by neutron and the weak gamma radiation emitted by all nuclides. Therefore, in the production, storage and transportation and so on each link all needs to pay special attention to UF6radiation shielding and protection. UF6Package for storage and transportation must have the enough mechanical strength to protect against leakage, and have enough shielding to ensure the lower dose for the staff and the surrounding environment. In this paper, the radiation intensity and the radiation energy spectrum from UF6are collected. The models of the radiation sources and the geometric and materials models of UF6Package are set up. The particles transportations in UF6Package are simulated using MCNP code. The flux and the energy spectrum of neutron and gamma are presented in outside surface of UF6Package. The absorbed dose rates in water are calculated by combining the flux and the kerma factors. In addition, F6card of MCNP code is used to present directly the absorbed dose rates in water. By contrast, the absorbed dose rate of the simulated values and the F6card values is the same order of magnitude. The results show that the neutron absorbed dose rate is higher about20times than the photon absorbed dose rate. The neutron shielding should be firstly the most important task In radiation protection...
