Green shipping is one of the latest hot spots in the shipping industry. Shipping environmental protection is a strategic investment for the ship-building and ship-enterprises with long-term economic and social benefit. Improving the energy efficiency level of ship is one of the main means of environmental protection of the ship. It can protect the environment, make the enterprise to win a good social reputation, more can save fuel investment, reduce enterprise operating cost greatly, making the enterprise obtain good economic benefits. Therefore, ship energy efficiency design index (EEDI) is proposed by IMO to effectively improve the energy efficiency level of international shipping vessels and has captured attention in related industries. This article expounds the main harm of ship emissions of greenhouse gases first and then analyzes the dangers of greenhouse gases. Introducing the main emissions regulations and IMO international emissions reduction measures taken to lead to the design of energy efficiency index of the ship. Then the paper elaborates the EEDI gradually forming process and the index of the validation process.Detailed analyses the EEDI formula and introduces the parameters of the formula, the models of ships to which it is suitable for calculation and the meaning of each part, and uses this as a foundation to analyze the EEDI baseline formula. This study adopts actual ship data to calculate the ship energy index number(s) and to compare and analyze, and uses sensitivity analysis and discussion to alter the ship energy index number(s) in order to increase the feasibility of ship energy. Finally, based on the theoretical analysis in the beginning, this paper proposes measures to deal with the new regulations of the ship energy index number and to reduce the amount of ballast water, optimizing hull design and such methods to improve ship energy efficiency. This dissertation uses a reasonable method to analyze ship energy, and proposes appropriate and practical measures. The article provides reasonable suggestions to related enterprises’production plans and maintains practical significance. This study plays a promoting role and guidance on related fields of research.
