In recent years, with the fast development of the railway transportation enterprises in our country, a huge number of new passenger railway stations are being put into use. These new large-scale railway stations present significant challenges to the architectural function layout, space design and streamline organization of the traditional layout railway station. Firstly, the premise of present modern railway stations is offering as much convenience as possible to passengers, i.e., we should try to provide convenient and comfortable environments, quick and convenient transfer conditions as well as humanized service; Furthermore, modern railway stations require clear streamline design, smooth, convenient, and free of interface. As a critical part of large railway stations and full of many public elements, waiting room has become an open region with the purpose of providing convenient and comfortable service for passengers.Based on the project of the Ministry of Railway station, this thesis employs post-occupancy evaluation approach in junction with environmental psychology and passenger transport psychology to analyze the waiting room of Wu Han station, which includes the summary of its current utilization situation, studying the variation of psychology and behavior of passengers. Moreover, comparisons among WU Han station, Hong Qiao Shang Hai station, Bei Jing South station and Cheng Du East station are facilitated for digging out the present problems and the corresponding origins. Further comparisons with waiting rooms of the advanced foreign railway stations are also conducted in this thesis. In chapter six, from the starting point of users, detailed examples from domestic and foreign are investigated for proposing new methods to improve the layout of waiting room design.
