In the visible light communication research, The author’s team developed a intelligent furniture system controled by semiconductor lighting. The system use LED as lighting source, through the central controller to turn the LED on and off to control all the electrical appliances. In order to operate convenient.our team also developed a software platform based on mobile phone,so all the electrical appliances can be controled by a cell phone. If the electrical appliances wants to receive the instruction from LED lights, the remake had to be done.So we embedded optical receivers in the electrical appliances’control circuit. The optical receiver made by the chips that we bought was too big,not easy to put into some small or ultra-thin electrical appliances, and its’Stability and reliability were poor.So the author designed a monolithic integrated and variable gain visible light receiver. This receiver was based on0.18μm CMOS technology, and put optical detector, transimpedance amplifier and main amplifier integrated into one chip. And in order to adapt to different height of electrical appliances may receive different intensity of the lightauthor designed the variable gain transimpedance amplifier which has six different transimpedance. In the design process,in view of the special requirements of the intelligent furniture system, author boldly adopted a inverter as the output of the receiver, and this reduce the complexity of the circuit greatly. After the simulation in the soft ware, the design had been taped out.And author designed a matching external circuit to connect the chip with the intelligent furniture system and done the field test. The result proved that this receiver had a good reception, can adapt to visible light’s low frequency transmission and had wide input dynamic range.
