At present, the serious challenges have been presented to the idea and method of thetraditional mechanical design and manufacturing, because the market is fast changing andthe product needs are changing the direction of short-cycle, high-volume, variable volume,so a new concept of reconfigurable design and manufacture has been put forward. Theproblem of reconfigurable mechanism innovative design was studied by means ofmultifunctional components based of geometric similarity in this paper. Reconstruction ofthe entire machine system was achieved based on the reconfigurable mechanisms and anumber of functional components which were assembled with the mechanisms accordingto the functional requirements and structure the rationality of the layout. This paper carriedthe following research:(1) An in-depth review was expounded reconfigurable systems and reconfigurabletechnology development, research status and key technologies over domestic and overseasresearch, and some theories were summarized to achieve reconfigurable systems.(2) A concept of building reconfigurable mechanism was put forward by analyzingthe defects of the key reconfigurable technologies (Modular technologies), and thereconfigurable mechanism system was built form the hardware layer.(3) According to TRIZ the versatility of TRIZ theory, component multifunctionalthinking was presented, diversity of multifunctional components were enriched by use ofgeometric similarity, the innovative design of the mechanism was achieved by means ofreconfiguring multifunctional components to a entire mechanism, and multifunctionalcomponent libraries of lever and gear were rebuilt.(4) The traditional crank-link mechanism was innovatively designed throughdesigning connecting rod into the overall style and improving the crankshaft, and severaldesign programs were given.(5) With the multifunctional gear components, under the guidance of several kinds of innovative ideas such as TRIZ theory, series and parallel interpretation and replacementinterpretation, starting from the actual project needs, reconfigurable mechanism programswere designed based on the geometric components similar and different shapes, sizes, andthe mechanisms working principle were analyzed, and the mechanical properties analysiswas given.(6) The typical mechanism kinematic analysis was done, and the trajectory andmotion characteristics graph of reconfigurable mechanism were derived by Pro/E,ADAMS and Matlab engineering software.The features of this paper was that multifunctional components were designed basedon geometric similarity and different functions of mechanisms were reconfigured rapidlyaccording to the different needs of engineering, according to the study of the above content;a variety of reconfigurable mechanism design were achieved and some reference formechanism design were brought.
