For the application of reinforced concrete members covered with steel tube in port enginerring and the revision of the Code for Design of Highway Reinforced Concrete and Prestressed Concrete Bridges and Culverts[1], the simplified calculation methods of bearing capacity for reinforced concrete members covered with steel tube and reinforced concrete members with circular section were analyzed. The following four aspects were included:(1)Load versus deformation relationship curves of reinforced concrete members covered with steel tube calculated by fiber model method and finite element method based on the constitution of steel tube态steel rebar and core concrete were contrasted.(2) To simplify the calculation, two methods that reinforced concrete members covered with steel tube were equivalent to double-reinforced concrete and concrete-filled double-steel tubes were proposed. The bearing capacitits of reinforced concrete members covered with steel tube calculated in the above two ways were contrasted with that calculated by fiber model method and finite element method, and the simplified calculation method was proposed.(3) The formulas of bearing capacity for the eccentrically compressed reinforced concrete members with circular section in the Code for Design of Highway Reinforced Concrete and Prestressed Concrete Bridge and Culverts and the Code for design of concrete structures[2] were analyzed. Considering the uniformity of codes and the simplified calculation, the revised suggestion for the calculation of bearing capacity for compressed reinforced concrete members with circular section in the Road Code was proposed.(4) Calibrating at three points which represent capacity in uniaxial, flexural and balance state in the moment-axial force curve, a simplified equation was presented for calculating the bearing capacity of eccentrically compressed reinforced concrete member with circular-section on the basis of that in the Code for design of concrete structures. Simplified tabe for the designing of compressed reinforced concrete members with circular section in highway bridges was proposed.
