As an important control and protection equipment in high voltage, extra-high voltageand ultra high voltage electrical power system, SF6circuit breakers are the dominant highvoltage switchgear. The breaking performance and dielectric recovery characteristics ofhigh voltage SF6circuit breaker is largely determined by the interaction of arc and gas flowduring short circuit interruption process. It is of great significance to calculate thecharacters of arc accurately and research the interaction of arc-flow in the chamber in orderto analyse arc-extinguish principle and improve the structure of the chamber.In the progress of short-circuit current interruption, the gas flow field problem iscomplicated with transonic, compressibility, viscosity, complicate gas, alterable boundary,shock wave, turbulence. And the structure of SF6circuit breaker chamber is complex.Electric temperature and gas flow field are involved in the analysis of arc simulation.Based on plenty of literatures at home and abroad, research situations of gas-flow field andarc model are summarized.2-D dynamic arc energy source model is applied consideringarc-extinguishing theory of puffer SF6circuit breaker. COMSOL Multiphysics software issupplied to the analysis simulation of high voltage SF6circuit breaker creatively.Parameters in the electric and flow field are simulated and analysed by the multi-physicscharacters based on the geometry model of252kV puffer SF6circuit breaker.Based on the FEA multi-physics coupling software and combined with SF6gasproperties, the temperature、density、pressure、gas-flow velocity、Mach number and energyflow density in the arc quenching chamber for the SF6circuit breaker were investigated bycoupling the gas properties with the governing equations of the flow field. The charactersare analysed numerically. It demonstrate that the method based on multi-physics canimprove the calculation precision of the gas flow field for SF6circuit breaker effectively,which provides the basis for study of arc-extinguishing mechanism.
