Three phase squirrel cage induction motor is widely applied in all walks of lifebecause of its simple and inexpensive. But in some special occasional that needhigher stating performance, the common induction motor is not suitable. So a newstructure of induction motor is proposed in this paper. That kind of induction motorhas higher stating torque and lower stating current comparing with commoninduction motor in same seat No.. In some special conditions, compound cage rotorcan get optimal performance of induction motor and save source of energy in acertain extent.Firstly,3kW induction motor with compound cage rotor is illustrated in thispaper, and structure characteristic of compound rotor is recommended. One suitableslot shape of rotor is designed and3D thermal stress field finite element model isestablished. Based on heat transfer theory, and temperature distribution is calculated.Upon this premise, thermal stress distribution and value is calculated in the bar atrated running, which can deduce the location of breaking in the bar.Secondly, the influence of shape and location of compound material is studied.37kW induction motor with compound cage rotor is illustrated in this chapter, threekinds of shot shape is designed, which is suitable to insetting of compound material.The height of compound material is fixed, and influence of material width toperformance of induction motor is studied. For keeping magnetic flux density ofrotor tooth in certain scope, width of shot has a certain range.Finally, the stating and operation performance3kW induction motor with solidrotor is calculated, which get experimental verification. The stating and operationperformance of induction motor with compound cage rotor is composed withinduction motor with solid rotor and common induction motor. Come to a conclusion is that two kinds of performance of induction motor with compound cage rotor isbetween the solid one and the common one, in other words, stating performance ofinduction motor with compound cage rotor is superior and operation performance ofit also well. Above all is show that comprehensive performance of induction motorwith compound cage rotor has advantage.In this paper, electromagnetic field and thermal stress field is calculated byfinite element. Meanwhile, according to relevant national standard,3kW inductionmotor with compound cage rotor and solid rotor is conducted an experiment,including stall experiment、 rated operation experiment and temperature riseexperiment. Then comparing calculated value and measured value, and error is inwithin bounds.
