A vibration damping sheet is composed by sheet metal and damping layer, so it has the characteristics of high strength of the base metal and high damping property of the high polymer. It is widely used in modern mechanical equipment and engineering structure to reduce the vibration and noise. Therefore it has a great significance to research the dynamic performance of the vibration damping sheets.Based on the analysis of the fundamental characteristics of the viscoelastic materials, experimental research has being made for samples of the vibration damping sheet. Developing a set of test system according to the national standard GB/T16406-1996and American society for testing and material standard ASTM E756-98. Free beam method and cantilever beam method were used to analysis the dynamic performance of the vibration damping sheets. The test results have good consistency. On that basis, the dynamic performance of vibration damping sheets which in different thickness ratio, temperature and damping layer material composition were researched. The test results can be used to evaluate the damping performance of the vibration damping sheet and providing a basis for the reasonable development and utilization of the vibration damping sheet. The vibration damping sheet also being analyzed in finite element method. According to the performance parameters of the vibration damping sheet, found a finite element model corresponding the test sample in ANSYS based on parametric modeling method. Using ANSYS to calculate the resonance frequencies and loss factors of the composite sheets in different damping layer thickness in modal strain energy method. A optimization analysis for the thickness of the vibration damping sheet was made through ANSYS in first-order method, and makes out the optimum objective function which can guide the reasonable design of the vibration damping sheets.
