Conductor is the main carrier of the power transmission, it is necessary to have a mainfunction of transporting electricity, and also to meet the line’s good safety and therequirements of the environmental protection. Heavy ice area lines are prone to overload anduneven ice breaking, broken raised unit, endangering the safe operation of the lines, so heavyice area wire must not only has excellent electrical properties, but also has good mechanicalproperties. Steel-core forming aluminum alloy stranded wire is an excellent new wire whichcombines the advantages of both type wire and aluminum alloy wire. With the developmentof the wire manufacturing technology, the reduction of manufacturing costs, and its economygrowing, it will have a broad application prospects in the line of heavy ice line.Based on the transmission line project of the right bank of Xiluodu hydropower stationto Guangdong500kV DC double circuit on the same tower project,which is responsible forthe implementation of China Southern Power Grid, this paper stating with30mm iceconductor selection discussed the calculation principle, feasibility and necessity of using alarge cross-section steel core molding aluminum alloy stranded..And then carried out researchon four productive wire manufacturers. On the basis of research, identified usingJLHA2X/G1A-1035/75technical parameters for steel-core forming aluminum alloy wire.
