| Rational use of ecological resources is the main subject of social development. As an example, Hangzhou Jiangyangfan Eco-park is built on the site of West Lake dredging peat soil and becomes a new tourist resort in Hangzhou. In this park a pedestrian bridge was built on the peat soil strata and supported by a new type of floating pipe foundation. Since the bridge was built, it has been settled as large as0.8m. In order to understand the settlement mechanisms behind and predict its developing trend, this Dissertation presents a comprehensive investigation into the fundamental behavior of West Lake peat soil, combined with the field measurements and numerical analyses.West Lake peat soil is a kind of very special soft soil, with large water content, high compressibility and void ratio, resulting in the low bearing capacity and complex mechanical behavior. The micro-structure of the peat soil was characterized by advanced testing methods, including SEM, XRD and EDS. Conventional laboratory tests were conducted and important physical parameters of the peat soil were obtained, including organic content, specific gravity and initial density. The mechanical behaviors were investigated by various tests, such as1-D oedometer tests,1-D creep tests and triaxial tests.Numerical method was employed to simulate the settlement of the pedestrian bridge, An existing viscosity-elastic-plastic model is calibrated and applied to the numerical analyses by Plaxis. The simulated results were compared with the field monitoring data, and a fairly good agreement was obtained. |
