Based on the information of entropy concept, principle of maximum entropy and therelated reliability theory, it has been build up the limit state equation with various failuremode of reinforced siol retaining wall and made a theoretical derivation about themathematical model. Combined with the Yangze River bank protection in Yudong, thereliability analysis of the retaining wall was also studied under different failure modes inthis paper. This method was applied to the reliability calculation of the retaining wall withdifferent height and different section structure form, and it was analysed the influence ofthe interior reliability index with the distribution of tie bar, achieved a desirable outcome.The main conclusions include the following aspects:(1)It could be get the probability density function Z directly. It can be concludedthat the probability density function Z doesn’t quite fit the normal distribution. When thefailure probabilityPf is less than1e-5, the probability model of function Z used normaldistribution, greatly affects the failure probabilityPf.Therefore the maximum entropymethod is more reasonable compared with JC method.(2)It could be hiden the defect of equivalent normalization of JC method. In thereliability analysis of the retaining wall, the joint distribution of random variables wascomplex and limit state equation was non-linear. Using this method based on the principlemaximum entropy, it was no need to the probability model of random variables, not onlydid we used the digital features of mean and variance, but also we considered the threecenter distance about skewness and fourth center distance about kurtosis. Theoretically, asa new reliability analysis method of the retaining wall, the maximum entropy method wascomparatively accurate.(3)It could be provided a high precision probability model for random variables.Traditional methods of parameter statistical method based on probability theory andseveral manage statistic wrapped a certain cloak for random variables, however, it waspossible that the distribution pattern of the random variable could be getted by using theprinciple of maximum entropy. In the future, based study more in the aspects of statisticalparameters, the usage of the principle maximum entropy in reliability analysis will makethe calculation of reliability index more reasonable and accurate.
