Noise has serious harm to the development of society and ecological environment, especially to people’s health. Now noise pollution has been one of the three big pollutions in the world. With the development of automobile industry, automobile become common transportation for our going out. On the other hand, automobile noise has a bad effect on people’s life and health. By this, all countries in the world enact laws to control automobile noise. Our country also enacts a series of laws. The laws act as a role to supervise the automobile companies to enhance technology for controlling noise. The engine exhaust noise occupies a large proportion in automobile noise. Controlling exhaust noise is an important method to control automobile noise. And, mufflers are effective tools. Experiment is an important method in traditional muffler research. But it costs a lot of resource and time. Along with the development of computer simulation technology and application in automobile, a much convenient method is comed up. Softwares such as GT-POWER has been widely applied in vehicle performance simulation. And, it has been proved to be reliable. It can be used in muffler early design instead of experiment to save resource and time.We design a muffler for2100diesel engine based on GT-POWER, and establish a model for2100diesel engine and the muffler. Then, we perform an experiment to test the reliability of the model. And then, we use GT-POWER model to simulate the performance of muffler in different position and the performance of mufflers with different tailpipes.
