With the social progress and development, the safety and reliability electric power facilities become particularly important. Reliability, safety, and stability of the lOkV distribution grid, which is facing to the people directly, is paid by more and more attention. In recent years due to the significant increase of breakage accident frequency of10kV overhead insulated wires caused by lightning strikes, to solve this problem, this essay based on the actual10kV overhead insulated wire as a platform supplies certain reference methods for the selection of lightning protection equipments for lOkV overhead insulated wire in future different environments and conditions through various installations of lightning protection equipment and comprehensive comparisons of lightning protection effects.This paper at first starts from the knowledge of formation, classification, lightning parameter and form and harm of overvoltage, firmly handles the basic knowledge of lightning and lays the foundation for latter actual lightning protection measures. Secondly, regarding lOkV overhead insulated wire lightning strike breakage principle, researches respectively on lightning protection principles of the over voltage protection device, lightning protection hardware and an arc-protection hardware and tests the lightning protection performances of three kinds of lightning protection devices through the laboratory experiments. Again through summarizing the details of wires which suffered lightning in Liaoyang Power Supply Company in three years, determined three most seriously damaged lines by the lightning as the carrier for the inspection of protection effect of lightning protection devices, arranged different lightning protection devices in the three lines respectively during the time of Liaoyang Power Supply Company’s spring inspection,10kV line technical transformation and maintain outage. Finally, through statistics of three lines tripping frequency in a year, identified the disconnection times caused by lightning strike occurred in the three lines in a year and then identified the lightning protection effect of the three lightning protection equipments by comparing. At the same time through the comprehensive comparisons of economy, reliability, ease of installation and other aspects of three lightning protection devices, summarizes the most suitable installation environments and locations for three kinds of lightning protection devices.This essay based on the current lightning protection equipment as a prototype, connecting the author’s own practical work experience in power industry, summarizes up the most suitable install locations and environments for a variety of lightning protection devices, effectively reducing the disconnection accident caused by lightning strike for the10kV overhead insulated wire and ensuring the safety and reliability of power supply, also provides effective reference theory and research thought to the R&D of new lightning protection equipment at the same time.
