As a modern architectural approach, bridge has been widely used in varioustypes of buildings, which makes an invaluable contribution to the quality of overallarchitectures. The applying of bridge in architecture contains rich culturalconnotations and facilitates the forming of architectural spirits. Moreover, bridge alsoprovides users with a path to walk through the architectural space. However, currentresearch on the usage of bridge falls short, even the distinction between bridge andramp is not clear.The second section of this paper shows the analysis of bridge’s importance inChinese traditional culture and expresses natives’ special emotion towards bridgebased on literature, folklore, religion and gardening, which lays a cultural foundationof the bridge’s usage in architecture.Section three discusses the effect of the bridge’s usage in the dividing of space,creating of space rules and transferring of interesting center based on Western spirit ofspace, architecture metaphor and intermediary space.Section four draws full analysis on the feature and approach of the bridge’s usagein the entrance of buildings, architecture yard space and the connection between hostsbuilding based on the relationship of bridge and architecture space.Section five shows instances and examples. This part discusses bridge’s culturalconnotations and the integration with architecture on the analysis of the entrance ofChinese Academy Museum. A further expression of the supplying of walking throughin architecture space is made through analyzing the reflection of space spirit inLasalle College of Arts.
