The service life of the building structure is measured in terms of structural reliability. Therefore, the study of structural reliability problems is a very important and urgent matter.Firstly, this paper introduces the basic concepts of structural reliability, Such as functional requirements of structures, functional function of structures, limit state of structures, structural reliability and reliability index. Secondly, this paper describes the calculation methods of the reliability for a single failure mode of the structure, for example, the average First-Order Second-Moment method, advanced First-Order Second Moment method, JC method, the Wu method and Monte-Carlo simulation, and comparing the computational accuracy and efficiency of these methods by several examples.This paper focuses on the optimization method of structural reliability on the basis of the existing calculation methods of reinforced concrete structures. Starting from geometric significance of the reliability index, this article solves the problem of the reliability index values into the optimization problem of minimization and establishes the optimization model of solving reliability index, It prepare general-purpose computer program using MATLAB language. This paper also cites several examples to compare it with some commonly used methods of calculating, Such as JC method and Monte-Carlo simulation. It obtains the result that optimization method of structural reliability is better than the two methods no matter what the accuracy of the calculation or the efficiency of the calculation. In addition, the optimization method of structural reliability is versatile and it is applicable in the analysis of the reliability of geotechnical engineering problems.This paper manly introduces bound estimate method for the computational methods of structural system reliability. It is used MATLAB language to get the answers of the examples. Complex numerical calculation process is greatly reduced and a lot of repetitive work in the process of the structural reliability calculation is avoided. So it is convenient to solve the problems of structural reliability analysis.This article also cites the instance of bridge engineering and gives the process of solving reliability index in detail through analysis and calculation of the structural component reliability and structural system reliability. Complicated formulas are not used in the solution process but to write MATLAB programs. Such as JC method and bound estimate method which are used in calculating the structural reliability, they are all used MATLAB language to get the answers of the questions.
