With the rapid development of social economy, the demand for electric power is increasing and electric power have been largely developed and utilized. As an important part of the engineering structure of electric power transmission and distribution, overhead transmission line has been built in large quantities nowadays. Electric power transmission capacity and transportation distance are growing fast and the voltage grade of overhead transmission line rises continuously. So the higher quality is required for the strength and safety of overhead line.Transmission line is an important part of electricity-transmission structure. It is under the outdoor environment all the time and some accidents may happen sometimes. By the action of wind, lines will always being vibrating. This would easily lead to line-broken, hardware wear and some other accidents. So the strength and safety of overhead line are very important. This paper researches on the vibration characteristics of overhead line under the effect of wind. The main research contents are as follows:Firstly, the mechanics calculation theory of the transmission line is introduced. Form-finding of transmission conductor is solved based on ANSYS and the accuracy is proved. Then the transient dynamic analysis method is used to analysis the dynamic simulation of vibration characteristics of transmission line and iced transmission line in different conditions.In order to analyze the actual situation of the vibration of transmission line, simple experimental modal is established. Transmission line is replaced by steel wire rope to analysis the vibration characteristics and the relationship between tension and vibration. Transmission line is covered by ice in artificial way to analysis the actual vibration characteristics of iced transmission line.
