Thermal power units of large capacity are developing to high automation and high instrument integration degree, which demand higher requirements to control quality of thermal automatic control system. But due to the conditions being limited in capital construction perion, the automatic control level is generally not high after prutting into production. Now the prower grid dispatching often require the thermal power units to adjust peak-load and frequency, but the automatic control level of units is often difficult to meet the requirements. In recent years, domestic large units are usually designed for basic load, so their capability of adjusting peak-load and frequency is not ideal. In recent years, many researchers and technicians are studying and improving automatic control strategies of thermal process in power plants using modern algorithms, and most of their results are good in theory, but the case of their actual application is very less. The new design idea is adopted in optimization system PROFI for power units, and it achieves the goal of fast load response through making full use of setting the parameters of controllers and the physical properties of the controlled object reasonably.The application of SIEMENS’optimization system PROFI in2×600MW subcritical units in ShenHua-GuoHua-DingZhou power plant is introduced in this paper, and the design ideas and control principles of PROFI are analyzed, as well as the whole application process of PROFI in units is introduced, which includes the test of unit characteristics, the optimization of sub control loops in DCS, the design and installation and commissioning of PROFI, as well as the future maintenance and improvement in design proposal and parameters, etc. As is proved in practice, the heat storage capability of units can be made full use of by PROFI, and rapid load change of unit is achieved under running smoothly, so the control effect of PROFI has been proved satisfied.
