Research On Renovation Design Of Historic District Of The Taining Shangshu Residence

Historic district as an important part of the city is a manifestation of the past of city, whichis an important information carrier of the history and culture of city. With the deepening of theprocess of urbanization, the protection and renewal of the historic district has become a problemthat can not be avoided in the process of the development of the modern city. However, in manypractice previously in China, the outcome of protection and renewal is always unsatisfactory.For the rapid return of the profits, the social, economic and cultural factors for urbandevelopment were always ignored, that resulting to various of abnormal phenomenon of theprotection and renewal of the historic district, such as blind retro, over-commercialization,which were the formation of substantial damage. Therefore, The protection and renewal of thehistoric district as a serious subject of China is worthy of further research.Historic district of the Taining Shangshu Residence is an important part of the ancient cityof Taining, which reflects the characteristics of typical residential building of the northernFujian in Ming or Qing Dynasties. A wall or a tile in the historic district is also a record of thevalue of development of Taining, which implies a rich cultural heritage. The uniquegeographical customs make the historic district to become a vital part of the Taining Tourism;excellent location and the growing transport network will bring a new opportunity fordevelopment to the district. However, the historic district is still in crisis because of ruthlessnatural disasters and human destruction from such a long history. In recent years, a lot of newbuildings damaged the architectural style of the historic district, while the changes of socialstructure threatened the traditional cultural heritage of the ancient city. Therefore, in this context,protection and renewal of historic district of the Taining Shangshu Residence have an importantsignificance.Putting the historic district of the Taining Shangshu Residence as the object of study, thispaper discusses geographical location, history and traditional culture of Taining which is thetotal environmental of the historic district. And then, combined with on-site survey, elaboratesthe present situation of the historic district and the influencing factors of the protections andupdate. Based on the above conclusions, takes a SWOT analysis of the development value ofthe historic district, and proposes several protection principles for the historic district.Simultaneously, combine with several typical cases to provide some references for theprotection and update. Finally, through the analysis and summary of the process of the wholeidea of rehabilitation programs, attempt to update the views on the protection of our historicdistrict, in order to achieve the main purpose of this paper.
