Joints design of steel transmission tower is an important part of structural design.in view of the steel tubular joint with an annular ribbed plate and the large diameter welded hollow spherical joints, in view of these two types of joints, this paper analysis the stress mechanism, and get the calculate formula of the bearing capacity.About the steel tubular joint with an annular ribbed plate. This paper based on the experimentation solution and finite element analysis for getting the mechanical characteristics, and build up the mechanical transmission mode. The experimentation designed four joints, and conducted the bearing capacity test. Get the strain deformation law and ultimate bearing capacity. Through the finite element analysis verity the test result and the simplified calculation formula, and summarized the calculation method about the gusset plates in the elastic stage stiffness. Compared the simplified calculation formula solution with the test and the finite element analysis solution, the bearing capacity calculation formulas can be used in the design of the joints.And now, there are many kind of calculation method have been propounded in many standards. But the value calculated by each standard are different from each other. At the same time, standard formulas can calculate the ultimate bearing capacity of joints which diameter below900mm. For researching the welded hollow spherical joints which diameter are larger than1000mm, this paper designed four welded hollow spherical joints which diameter are1400mm. Take the research on compressive bearing capacity and failure mode analysis. Compared the results made by test with the finite element analysis results, the finite element analysis based on shell element can well predict the test results. Then, through a lot of finite element analysis can sum up the suitable calculate formula for very large diameter welded hollow spherical joints under compressive and tensile bearing capacity.
