Bridges had been widely developed in the nineteenth century; high-rise construction had been widely developed in the twentieth century and in the twenty-first century, urban underground space facilities will be explored.The scientific, reasonable and economic, effective development and utilization of urban underground space resource could improve the harmonious development of the ground and underground construction, improve the urban comprehensive defense and security, improve reasonable utilization of resources and construction of a ecological city.Based on the international urban underground space development and utilization planning the successful examples of urban planning in recent years, the urban underground space overall resources, layout, environment and usage situation and some other aspects are carried out in-depth analysis. The problems present in the development of urban land resource tension, traffic stress, low efficiency utilization of resource are firstly reviewed, and the feasibility of easing or solving these problems by strengthening the development and utilization of urban underground space are evaluated. With the Weifang city of underground space use planning project as an example, a comprehensive analysis of the urban conditions, geology, hydrological conditions, the level of urban construction and underground space development and utilization are carried on. Combined with the location of geographical environment condition, economic condition, social condition, etc., the underground public facilities, underground disaster prevention facilities, underground storage facilities are systematically researched. At the same time, the characters and main contradiction problems in the underground space development and utilization in Weifang are put forward, rational suggestions are provided.The research will promote Weifang resource conservation and environmental friendly city construction, and promote the sustainable development of Weifang city.
