Asphalt pavement is exposed to the natural environment which is affected byexternal climate factors that are cyclical variation, and its structure. Consequently, itsinterior inevitably emerges a temperature field changing with the atmospherictemperature. Meanwhile, the stress field generated by the verhical loads of pavementstructure is also inevitably metabolic because of the changing internal temperature field.Sequentially, these factors seriously affect the pavement performance and lead to somediseases such as easy to rutting under high temperature and easy to cracking under lowtemperature. These diseases will lead to a severely reduction of pavement service lifeand traffic safety. Asphalt pavement structure’s temperature field and stress field is oneof the basic works on pavement damage study. So once we grasp the distribution oftemperature and stress in the internal structure accurately, we can strengthen or adjustthe design of weak structure layers, and then reducing disease occurring probability ordelaying disease occurring time. This article researchment is relying on Guang’yuan to Bazhong highway projects, and closely related to pilot studies of the research subject called "Actual measurementand analysis of asphalt pavement temperature field". Using the finite element softwareANSYS to conduct the simulation study of asphalt pavement temperature and stressfield. First of all, using meteorology and heat transfer theory to analyse the workingconditions of asphalt pavement and finite element theory to analyse its numericalsolution method; Secondly, choosing representatively high, normal and low temperatureand day for a cycle to imitate temperature field, and then compare the numericalsolution with the measured value to confirm the simulated result valid; Thirdly, simulatting stress field of asphalt pavement under standard load to analyse thedistribution of normal and shear stress from horizontal and vertical direction, and thenfind out the depth range of maximum stress. Finally, according to the study oftemperature effect on stress field and shear strength, to coupled of temperature andstress field, and analyse the mechanical mechanism of high temperature rutting, andthen determine the occurred range of rutting, and provide a valuable reference forrutting’s prevention and treatment.
