Abstract/Summary:
With the rapid development of power electronics, switch power has been widelyapplied. But due to the applications of rectifiers between the switch power and thepower grid, the power factor has been decreased and various harmonic currents havebeen produced. The power grid has also been polluted by the harmonic currents. So thepower factor correction technique with low cost and high efficiency has become thefocus in the power electronics research field. Based on the project “Design techniqueresearch of power analog integrated circuit”, this paper studies the design of powerfactor correction controller IC.The principle and topology of power factor correction are introduced in this paper. The control strategy is also discussed. By introducing the control strategy of activepower factor correction system and analyzing the basic theory, a boost type activepower factor correction controller based on the critical mode control technique isproposed to restrain harmonic currents and improve the efficiency of electrical power. The wave of the input current has been forced to follow the wave of the input voltagewith the highly linear multiplier. A total harmonic distortion optimizer circuit isspecially integrated to solve the crossover distortion problem where the input voltage iszero. The error amplifier circuit and compensation circuit have been used to detect theoutput voltage to achieve fast instantaneous response and protect the IC fromunexpected situation. The circuit design and simulation has been accomplished based on0.35μm BCD process. The layout of the chip has also been designed with an area of1.36mm2. The chip has been taped out.
