In recent years, Remote monitoring and control system has been widely used inelectric power distribution system of terminal users like buildings, sports facilities,research facilities, airport, hospital, traffic, electric power and petrochemical industries.Remote monitoring and control system is generally composed of Monitoring centercomputer system and Terminal station system. Terminal station system directly effect onthe running equipment, to realize the real-time data collection and monitoring. Monitoringcenter computer system communication with terminal station system for data acquisitionand remote control functions. The whole network based on fieldbus and industrialEthernet technology for field terminals and Power Monitoring Center PC networkinterconnection.Along with the user’s increasing high demand, Power distribution system becomemore and more complex. Remote monitoring and control system network extends into themetropolitan area network and world wide network. For economical reason, End users cannot establish a unified network for every distribution system. It means that the hugeinvestment and management cost. So using the public Internet network, through the VPNtechnology to build a virtual private network, is now relatively economical and practicalsolutions. Public network because of its broad coverage, hire high performance-price ratio,construction and maintenance of charge carriers and other advantages, so as to betterapply to long-distance communication. VPN (virtual private network) technology canprovide the reliable and safety communication for Remote monitoring and control system.This article take the case of Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute’s three test basespower monitoring system engineering. By means of using the VPN technology to build avirtual private network over internet, we interconnect the three distribution automationsystem and video monitoring system into an organic whole system, although these three places are located different direction in Nanjing city. It is tens of kilometers farawayeachother. This case combined VPN, internet,video monitoring and distributionmonitoring and management. It makes greatly saving the equipment investment, reducethe labor cost, realizes convenient and efficient distribution management system.
