Evaporative cooling technique, as a kind of energy saving and environmental protection of air conditioning technology, is in line with energy conservation and emission reduction request for which the state put forward now. China’s western region had the advantage of using evaporative cooling air conditioning system due to the dry hot climate condition.Hence,selecting five typical cities (Xining, Lanzhou, Urumqi, Yinchuan, Xi’an) in dry heat and mid-humidity area as the researchful object, this paper analyzed the evaporative cooling air conditioning system’s energy consumption and comfort, putting forward guidance for the promotion of evaporative cooling technique.First of all,calculating the sunstroke with the improved BIN method;Secondly, with the palisade structure of the thermal performance according to the building model in different climate zone,and the interior design parameters, calculating the five cities of the air conditioning load.Finally,the loads were compared using DEST and BIN method.Then this paper introduced the design principle of evaporative cooling air conditioning system and the method of controlling the operation of evaporative cooling air conditioning system with the design principle and BIN theory. According to relevant knowledge, this paper calculated energy consumption of evaporative cooling VAV system and SEER,and the results were compared with CAV system.Xining, Lanzhou, Urumqi, Yinchuan belong to dry heat area in five typical cities,so evaporative cooling air conditioning could fully replace the traditional mechanical refrigeration air conditioning.The result showed that the SEER value of using evaporative cooling air conditioning system is high in four cities,so it had a good performance of system energy saving.Besides,for the whole of the refrigeration period,the running time of DEC is greater than IEC. Though Xi’an is city in a mid-humidity area, the application of evaporative cooling must assist to mechanical refrigeration air conditionning system. The result showed that using the evaporative cooling technique could reduce the mechanical refrigeration unit running time、 capacity of the mechanical refrigeration and save energy cosumption.This paper took TRNSYS platform to simulate the thermal comfort of evaporative cooling air conditioning system though using the meteorological data read module (. Epw format meteorological files)、DEC module、IEC module、building thermal process module. Related data of evaporative cooling air conditioning system designing with BIN data was put to TRNSYS,the results showd that Xining、Lanzhou、Urumqi、 Yinchuan had good cooling effect using evaporative cooling air conditioning and PMV was below1.5in summer,so the thermal comfort was good. Because of the limitations of using evaporative cooling technique in Xi’an as a mid-humidity area, cooling effect is limited.
