In high-rise building structures, bottom always form short column even ultra shortcolumn due to its over designed column section area. we all know that the shortcolumn has shear-span ratio and poor ductility and it likely to suffer brittle fracturewhen earthquake happens. The split column teachnogy set about to improve the shortcolumn’s property and change it to long column, which is s big advance for theimprovement of short column. therefore studying of concrete split column andproposing better structure form has great signficance for seismic research. This article studied the lateral stiffness of split columns. By using a finite elementanalysis software SAP2000, the effect of the length of transition zone and the width ofseparating slit upon lateral stiffness was discussed, the difference of lateral stiffnessamong different split column forms and short integer column s was found throughcomparison, and a simplified formula for calculating lateral stiffness of concrete splitcolumns was derived finally, which can provide a certain theoretical basis forengineering. The specific research is as follows:1. Derived the formula for calculating lateral stiffness of split columns by usingthe ideal and simplified models and basic principles of mechanics.2. Analyzed the lateral stiffness of split columns with different parameters inelastic deformation state to get the relation curve between the lateral stiffness and thevariable parameters, and conducted a stress and deformation analysis of single shortinteger columns and four different split columns to get the displacement of thecolumns under different horizontal loads and to compare the lateral stiffness of splitcolumns of different forms, this can provide a basis for engineering.3. Developed a reasonable formula for calculating lateral stiffness of concrete splitcolumns by comparison and fitting on the basis of theoretical analysis and finiteelement simulation of the lateral stiffness of split columns.
