Seismic reinforcement of existing buildings and adding-storeys renovation is not onlywidely used, but also increasing demanded, while the structural design is the key step.Conventional structural reinforcement design is the use of design software that based onthe theory of elasticity to model and analyze the structure, then determine thereinforcement program based on the carrying capacity of elements. This design methodcan`t fully consider the plastic energy dissipation capacity of the structure, characteristicsand sequence of destruction, therefore, further study of the seismic reinforcement designmethod has important practical significance.In this paper, on the basis of reviewing the characteristics of the seismicreinforcement and adding-storeys renovation of existing buildings and seismicreinforcement design theory`s and application of present situation, the common method inseismic reinforcement and adding-storeys renovation of existing buildings are expounded,the method of determining the cross-section parameter by using increased cross-sectionmethod to reinforce elements and the shortcomings of equivalent stiffness method areanalyzed and discussed; Combined with adding-storeys renovation of projects, analysissoftware SAP2000, ABAQUS and PKPM are used to study the equivalent cross-sectionmethod to determine the elements`design parameters in the model where increasedcross-section method is used to reinforce elements; On the basis of taking Comprehensiveconsideration of the section size, concrete strength and reinforced steel conditions of bothoriginal and added concrete, this paper discusses the method to determine cross-sectionsize, concrete strength and information of reinforced steel after reinforcement byconsidering the elements as a whole; this paper also study the sequence and locationplastic hinge, the failure process and force change channels in the example project ofdifferent reinforcement methods, then establish a database of plastic hinge in exampleproject.The results show that use the equivalent section method to determine thecross-section design parameters of elements can better reflect the work state of theelements, this method solve the problem of elements`traits change after the reinforcementin theory, obtained more accurate results, facilitate secondary reinforcement of modeling calculations, conducive to targeted reinforce and calculate the structural system batch bybatch or step-by-step, all above has important practical significance and engineeringapplications for reliability improvement in overall modeling structural.
